[inline:MGM_logo.jpg]Following the success earlier this year of the cold reading workshop with UK casting director Sue Jones, Paul Weber, Head of Casting, MGM Worldwide, taught a TV/Film Auditioning Technique Workshop Intensive Class at Artemis Studios, one of UK’s most progressive acting schools and resource centre for actors, singers & dancers On Sunday 2nd September. Never before has this opportunity been given to UK Actors!
Is Hollywood coming to the United Kingdom? Should UK actors move to Los Angeles or New York?
Paul Weber, Head of Casting for MGM Television Worldwide, answered these questions and more. He gave each actor a scene to prepare & will offered personal direction & guidance that will give the actor insight into the cold reading process, helping the actor develop audition skills, & prepare the actor for a successful career in the industry! He presently teaches ‘The Working Actor, Get the Audition, Book the Job’ at UCLA.
Paul Weber C.S.A. presently acts as the ‘In House’ casting director for MGM Worldwide, his credits include ‘Dead Like Me’ & ‘Jeremiah’ for Showtime, ‘She Spies’ for NBC, as well as ‘The Initiation of Sarah’ for ABC family. He is currently casting the ‘Stargate SG-1’ features & ‘Stargate Atlantis’ for the Sci-Fi network. He recently completed casting ‘Species Cuatro’ & ‘War Games II’ for MGM, as well as ‘Enemy Mine’ & ‘Blithe & Virginia’ for Lifetime. He is in active development with the Studio on new projects to include ‘Into The Blue II’, ‘Cutting Edge III’, ‘Picture This’, starring Ashely Tisdale, & ‘Legally Blondes’ (which requires a UK cast!)…. Mr. Weber also casts 3 – 5 independent features a year. Credits include movies for the Sci – Fi network, ‘Lazarus child’ starring Andy Garcia, Angela Bassett & Frances O’Connor, ‘Ozzie’, a family feature starring Spencer Breslin & Joan Collins. He has also co-produced three features, most recently ‘Hollywood North’ starring Sir Alan Bates, Mathew Modine, Jennifer Tilly & Deborah Unger.
"Awareness of the talent pool in the UK, is invaluable to me as many of the shows I am now working on require UK actors," says Weber, who is currently casting "Legally Blondes," which requires a UK cast! "I look forward to meeting more UK actors.
"While there are many shows and films shot in UK, many UK actors consider moving to Los Angeles or New York to increase their opportunities," states Weber.
During the Sunday class, Paul will taught actors how to take control of their careers. “Whether an actor decides to make the move to Hollywood or Broadway or to stay in the UK, the same business managerial and self-marketing skills will apply."
What did Paul think of Artemis and AMTC students?
He said before he left “This group of young actors are as good, if not better, than their counterparts in the States. I was very impressed with the levels of commitment.”
Paul became a friend of Artemis Studios at recent AMTC conventions in Florida, where he spotted and called back several Artemis students who performed well in the competitions.
He was invited to undertake the workshops at Artemis by AMTC UK director Lynne Millar and Artemis director Niki Robinson.
Our next workshop: A well known 'Dr Who' director will join us for a Sunday of intensive learning!
