Bracknell based ‘Artemis All-stars’ Cheer leaders took part in their their first ever Street Cheer competition last week, in Stoke on Trent. Street Cheer is new to the UK and combines Street Dance with traditional Cheerleading. The competition was fierce and with 15 squads competing in their section (seniors) and over 1200 cheerleaders taking part across all categories. The standards were very high and the Allstars were very nervous. They did however deliver a very memorable performance. The girls did an amazing job and won the admiration of both their families and teachers who came to support them, and also the crowd. Coach Gemah Allen was stopped and congratulated on the choreography, and mums from other squads who had travelled from Manchester praised the girls. The team took home medals and a trophy, winning a great placing in this tough competition. They hope to return to the same event next year and aim to win 1st place! The girls would like to offer special thanks to their sponsors, Gymophobics of Moss End, who paid for their coach to the event and tee shirts for each girl. Without help from generous sponsors like Reg (Gymophobics boss) the team would not be able to compete nationally. The girls fund-raise regularly, but each event costs in excess of £1000 to attend. The girls would like to thank the community for their support too, and they will be leading free workshops for the public on 29th November as part of the Christmas lights switch on fun in Bracknell that day. They can also be seen performing that day as well. If any dancer or gymnast between the ages of 8 and 21 would like to try Cheer Leading or Street Cheer with the Allstars or Junior Allstars, they can get in touch with coach Gemah at Artemis Studios in Charles Square on 01344 429403 for a free trail. The squad is also looking for 6 boys for the new year - and have fund-raised for their place on the squad!
